Vietnamese Embassy in Laos hosts events marking 81st National Day
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos will host an official reception on Friday evening, capping a series of cultural, sports, and diplomatic activities in Vientiane to mark the 81st anniversary of Vietnam's August Revolution and National Day (September 2).
The month-long commemorative program in the Lao capital featured various events aimed at connecting the Vietnamese expatriate community with their homeland and reinforcing solidarity with local people.
A broad array of diverse activities opened on August 17 with an exhibition and art performance on the Then religious practice of the Tay and Thai ethnic groups. The event celebrated Vietnam's National Day while marking 64 years of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic relations and a decade of implementing the Vientiane Declaration on ASEAN Cultural Heritage Cooperation.
On August 21, the embassy staged its inaugural pickleball tournament, which drew 86 athletes across 13 teams from Vietnamese representative agencies, businesses, and community members in Laos. Opening the tournament, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam highlighted the historical significance of September 2, 1945, which laid the foundation for national development and international standing.
Community outreach was also prioritized during the celebrations. Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam visited and presented gifts on August 24 to prominent Vietnamese families in Laos who contributed to the revolutionary causes of both nations, reaffirming that the Party and State value the support of overseas citizens.
On August 27, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, in coordination with the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese Cultural Center in Laos, unveiled an exhibition titled "Ho Chi Minh -Portrait of a Man." The showcase displayed 50 artworks by the late overseas Vietnamese painter Dao Trong Ly, attracting Lao officials, diplomats, and local residents.
The commemorative activities reaffirmed a shared responsibility to preserve and nurture the special relationship between the two nations.
