VOV.VN - The Vietnam Veterans Association in Berlin-Brandenburg on the evening of December 21 marked the 81st anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army (1944-2025) and the 36th anniversary of the All-People National Defence Day (1989-2025).

The occasion also coincided with the association’s congress for the 2025-2028 term.

The event provided an opportunity for former soldiers, friends and members of the Vietnamese community to reflect on key historical milestones, reaffirm the heroic traditions of the Vietnam People’s Army, and review the association’s activities over the past year.

Reviewing the association’s development, Nguyen Trong Nghia, Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association in Berlin–Brandenburg, said it was established on December  22, 2009, bringing together veterans, former servicemen and youth volunteers living in the region. Since its founding, the association has focused on upholding and promoting the qualities of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers”, strengthening unity, supporting members both spiritually and materially, and actively engaging in activities connected to the homeland, efforts that have been recognised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany.

Addressing the gathering, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Nguyen Dac Thanh highlighted the important role of Vietnam’s defence and security forces in national construction and protection, safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, and boosting  defence cooperation with partners, including Germany. He called on Vietnamese veterans and former servicemen in Germany to continue upholding the “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” tradition, setting an example within families and communities and contributing to the development of the Vietnamese community in Germany.

On the occasion, the ambassador applauded  several outstanding individuals and collectives for their contributions to community solidarity, development and integration.

Le Hong Cuong, chairman of the Tan Trao Association in Germany, said Vietnamese soldiers, wherever they reside, continue to uphold revolutionary traditions, contribute to the homeland in various fields, support one another abroad and help guide younger generations toward their cultural roots.

Nguyen Quang Anh, chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association in Germany, praised the active role of the Berlin–Brandenburg association, particularly its work with the Vietnamese community and the continued spirit of service after military life.

The association also held its congress for the 2025-2028 term, electing a new 17-member executive committee. Chairman Nguyen Trong Nghia said the association will focus on expanding membership, attracting younger successors, supporting members and directing its activities toward the interests of the homeland.
