Vietnam, US working toward early signing of reciprocal trade agreement
VOV.VN - Vietnam and the US are making positive progress in negotiations toward the early signing of a fair and balanced reciprocal trade agreement, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang stated at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on October 1.
In reply to a reporter’s query regarding the meeting between General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam and US Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer in New York on September 21, the Spokeswoman noted that both sides acknowledged positive strides in the talks. The agreement aims to establish a stable and long-term framework for bilateral economic, trade, and investment relations.
Vietnam and the US are continuing discussions to accelerate trade negotiations toward positive outcomes, ensuring the legitimate interests of their citizens and businesses while taking into account each country’s development conditions.
This effort contributes to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations and global prosperity, Hang said, adding that competent Vietnamese agencies will provide comprehensive details once the two sides reach a final consensus.
Regarding international media reports that the European Union (EU) is expected to remove Vietnam from its list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes during its October update, Spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang affirmed that Vietnam has maintained close, responsible cooperation and dialogue with the European Council and EU member states.
In the spirit of the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Vietnam has exchanged views, shared information, and closely cooperated with the European Council and EU member states on its progress in improving its legal framework and tax policies toward synchronization, transparency, fairness, and conformity with international standards and practices, she stated.
This cooperation will help both sides conduct a more objective and comprehensive assessment that accurately reflects developments in Vietnam, thereby promoting cooperation between Vietnam and its European partners for common development and prosperity.
