Thailand accelerates implementation of agreements from PM Anutin's Vietnam visit
VOV.VN - The Thai Government is moving swiftly to boost cooperation with Vietnam following Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's official visit to the country on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of both nations’ diplomatic ties.
Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, said after the Cabinet meeting on June 10 that PM Anutin had briefed the Cabinet on the outcomes of his visit to Vietnam, describing the trip as having achieved many positive results that will help further consolidate and deepen the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
According to Ratchada, the visit provided an opportunity for PM Anutin to follow up on and translate into concrete actions the outcomes of General Secretary and State President To Lam's earlier visit to Thailand.
During talks with Vietnamese leaders, the two sides discussed a wide range of important issues relating to bilateral relations through existing cooperation mechanisms, including the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), trade and investment cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, security cooperation and regional issues of mutual concern.
Notably, during this visit, PM Anutin led a delegation of Thai businesses to Vietnam to strengthen links between the business communities of both nations , while expanding investment opportunities for Thailand's private sector in Vietnam in the coming period, thereby helping advance the implementation of cooperation areas agreed by the two countries' leaders.
To ensure the outcomes are translated into concrete action as soon as possible, the Thai PM instructed a number of relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI), and other relevant bodies, to urgently carry out cooperation programmes with Vietnam across multiple sectors.
He tasked Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Suphajee Sutthampun with establishing a Joint Committee on Trade and Investment between the two nations to serve as a focal point for promoting exchanges, increasing bilateral trade turnover, and monitoring and resolving difficulties and obstacles in trade and investment in order to facilitate business activities in both countries.
According to the Thai Government, this mechanism will help elevate bilateral economic relations from a "trading partner" relationship to a "partner of the future" relationship.
Also at the Cabinet meeting, PM Anutin referred to the red-crowned crane conservation cooperation project between the two countries, describing it as a symbol of Vietnam-Thailand friendship. According to the Thai side, Vietnam expressed its appreciation for Thailand's transfer of six red-crowned cranes in 2025 to support conservation and reintroduction efforts in Vietnam.
Thailand plans to transfer six more red-crowned cranes in 2026 under a memorandum of understanding between the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand and the Vietnam Zoo Association on the conservation and breeding of this rare bird species.
Anutin also assigned the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to study the possibility of transferring a greater number of red-crowned cranes than previously agreed, viewing the initiative as a meaningful activity marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand.
According to the spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, enhanced cooperation in economics, investment, people-to-people exchanges and biodiversity conservation will continue to serve as important pillars of bilateral relations in the coming period, helping further forge friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
