The event, celebrating the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties (August 6, 1976- August 6, 2026), was jointly organised by the Royal Thai Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam Women's Museum as part of Mr Zaram's official visit to Vietnam.
At the opening ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Thanh noted that the presence of the Thai legislative leader created a meaningful milestone, demonstrating the resolve of both nations' leadership and people to push up the Vietnam-Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a practical and sustainable manner.
Highlighting the 50-year development of bilateral friendship and cooperation, Thanh stated that elevating relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May 2025 opened a new phase of growth. This landmark provides momentum to deepen cooperation across politics, defence, security, economy, trade, investment, technology, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
She added that parliamentary cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand has continuously expanded, helping consolidate bilateral friendship while contributing to regional peace, stability, and cooperation.
Thanh praised the exhibition's theme, " Woven ties: 50 Years of Thailand-Vietnam Diplomatic Relations", describing it as deeply meaningful. She noted that the traditional costumes on display not only reflect the cultural beauty, identity, and craftsmanship of each nation, but also symbolize the ties connecting the two countries, cultures, and peoples. Just as individual threads are woven into a durable fabric, Vietnam-Thailand relations today have been nurtured through political trust, the partnership between both parliaments and governments, and particularly the close bond between their peoples across generations.
She also highly appreciated the organisers' choice to honour the role of women and traditional weaving crafts- a symbol of cultural identity, diligence, skill, and creativity, as well as a enduring bridge between tradition and modernity in both Vietnam and Thailand.
Looking back at the landmark when the two countries established diplomatic relations on August 6, 1976, President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Thailand Sophon Zaram emphasized that this was the moment both countries opened a new chapter in establishing diplomatic ties. Since then, over the past 50 years, bilateral cooperation has not merely stayed at the level of regional neighbours, but has developed into a "friendship built on a foundation of sincerity and mutual trust".
Thailand and Vietnam have elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which reflects close ties in resolving modern challenges such as drug prevention, cybersecurity, and transnational crime. In addition, the two countries jointly promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the ASEAN region.
Representing the Thai legislative body, Sophon Zaram affirmed the Thai Parliament's commitment to supporting all-round cooperation with Vietnam, from promoting parliamentary ties to building sustainable connections for the prosperity of the peoples of both countries.
Today's 50-year milestone is not only a commemoration of the past, but also a starting point to step into a new future of cooperation. Thailand and Vietnam will continue to be sincere friends of each other, he emphasized.
At the ceremony, Zaram, Thanh, and delegates cut the ribbon to open the exhibition. Featuring traditional attire from both countries, the display showcases the rich cultural heritage and artistic craftsmanship of Vietnam and Thailand, emphasizing the role of women and weaving traditions in preserving cultural legacy.
Through displaying traditional attire from each country, the exhibition showcases the rich cultural heritage, identity, and artistic essence of Vietnam and Thailand, while showing the beauty, wisdom, and craftsmanship embodied in both societies, particularly the important role of women and weaving traditions in preserving cultural heritage.
The exhibition is open free to the public from 8:00 to 17:00 daily from August 6 to 12, 2026, at the Vietnam Women's Museum, No. 36 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hanoi.
