NA President Tran Thanh Man and spouse begin official visit to Mongolia
VOV.VN - National Assembly (NA) President Tran Thanh Man, his spouse Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga, and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on September 9 arrived at Chinggis Khaan International Airport in the capital Ulaanbaatar, beginning an official visit to Mongolia at the invitation of Mongolian National Assembly President Sandag Byambatsogt and his spouse from September 9 to 11.
Those welcoming the delegation at the airport were, on the Mongolian side, Mongolian Ambassador to Vietnam Ganbaatar Hulan, Chairwoman of the Mongolia-Vietnam Parliamentary Group J.Bayarmaa, and representatives from the Secretariat of the State Great Khural and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia. On the Vietnamese side were Vietnamese Ambassador to Mongolia Nguyen Tuan Thanh and officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Mongolia.
Vietnam and Mongolia share a long-standing traditional friendship, with both sides regularly helping and supporting each other. In recent years, bilateral relations have witnessed substantive and comprehensive developments across multiple fields. The two countries established a Comprehensive Partnership on the occasion of the State visit to Mongolia by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam in September 2024.
Politically, party-to-party ties have been further strengthened, political trust between top leaders consolidated, and exchanges of delegations and contacts at all levels maintained.
Cooperation in defense, security, justice, and law enforcement is becoming an important pillar in bilateral relations with new, substantive bright spots. Economic, trade, and investment cooperation continues to improve through agreements, commitments, and cooperative projects. The Intergovernmental Committee mechanism on economic, trade, and scientific-technological cooperation is regularly carried out.
Bilateral trade turnover continues to grow, reaching US$155 million in 2025 and nearly US$60 million in the first half of 2026. Cooperation in other fields such as culture, tourism, education, agriculture, local cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges continues to expand. Mongolian leaders affirm that they regard Vietnam as a top important partner in Southeast Asia.
Within the overall framework of Vietnam-Mongolia relations, cooperation between the two parliaments continues to be maintained, and legislative-channel exchanges and contacts are promoted. Both sides agreed to step up cooperation between the two legislative bodies, especially enhancing close cooperation among specialized committees, parliamentary groups, young parliamentarians, female parliamentarians, and affiliated agencies in line with the new relationship framework.
Both sides go ahead with maintaining cooperation and mutual support at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP).
Top legislator Tran Thanh Man is the first guest of newly elected National Assembly President Sandag Byambatsogt since taking office. This is the first official visit to Mongolia by NA President Tran Thanh Man and the first visit by a Vietnamese National Assembly President to Mongolia in 23 years, since 2003.
The visit aims to boost substantive cooperation between the two legislative bodies, helping to enhance defense, security, and economic cooperation, particularly in science and technology and new cooperative fields, commensurate with the substance of the Vietnam-Mongolia Comprehensive Partnership.
