VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in Timor-Leste officially opened its office in the capital city of Dili on July 15, marking its transition to fully functional, centralized operations just over three months after its establishment.

This milestone is a crucial step in finalizing the presence of Vietnam's resident embassy, enabling the synchronized implementation of political, economic, consular, citizen protection, and community affairs.

The ceremony was attended by Timor-Leste’s Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, and Minister of Tourism and Environment Francisco Kalbuadi Lay; Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Bendito dos Santos Freitas; and Vice Minister for ASEAN Affairs Milena Maria da Costa Rangel. Also present were representatives from the President’s Office, heads of ASEAN diplomatic missions in Dili, delegates from Telemor, and members of the local Vietnamese community.

Speaking at the event, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Pham Binh Dam emphasized that putting the new office into operation not only meets the embassy's centralized operational requirements but also reflects Vietnam's long-term commitment to constantly consolidating friendly ties and cooperation with Timor-Leste. He pledged that the embassy will continue to act as a bridge connecting agencies, localities, and businesses of both nations, while actively supporting the host country's ASEAN integration process.

On behalf of the Government of Timor-Leste, Deputy Prime Minister Francisco Kalbuadi Lay congratulated the embassy on the inauguration. He affirmed that Timor-Leste highly values its friendship with Vietnam and expressed hope that the embassy will continue to contribute actively to expanding bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Alongside the launch of the current office, both sides are coordinating to finalize the necessary procedures to take over and renovate the former United States Agency for International Development (USAID) building in Dili, which is slated to become the permanent headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy.

Immediately following the inaugural ceremony, the embassy hosted a regular meeting of the heads of ASEAN diplomatic missions in Dili. Hosting an ASEAN event as the first official activity at the new working premises demonstrates the embassy's increasingly active role in local multilateral affairs, while marking the start of full-scale operations for the Vietnamese diplomatic mission in Timor-Leste.
