Greater integration offers new opportunities for Vietnam-Mexico ties: Ambassador
VOV.VN - Bilateral relations between Vietnam and Mexico hold immense growth potential, based on their degree of economic and international integration alongside similarities in development and cooperation, according to Mexican Ambassador to Vietnam Alejandro Negrin Munoz.
In a recent press interview, Ambassador Alejandro Negrin Munoz positively assessed Resolution No. 59 adopted by Vietnam in 2025, noting that enhanced international integration can make vital contributions toward achieving Vietnam’s national development targets.
According to the diplomat, both Vietnam and Mexico feature high degrees of trade openness, strong foreign investment attraction capabilities, and deep participation in global value chains. Both nations also pursue ambitious economic goals: Mexico aims to join the world's top 10 largest economies, while Vietnam strives to become a developed nation in the near future.
Ambassador Alejandro Negrin Munoz emphasized that Vietnam’s open-door policy creates new momentum to reinforce the bilateral agenda after more than five decades of diplomatic ties. In this context, he welcomed the publication of the book “Mexico/Vietnam: Future Vision,” considered the first multidisciplinary bilateral academic project analyzing the evolution and prospects of relations between the two countries.
The ambassador highlighted the growth of economic ties over the past decade, largely thanks to shared participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
This experience demonstrates the potential of multilateral mechanisms in broadening cooperation between the two nations, as well as between Vietnam and Latin America.
Key priorities for the coming years include facilitating two-way investment and trade flows, alongside making more effective use of shared multilateral frameworks. In particular, the ambassador underscored the significance of Vietnam hosting APEC in 2027 and Mexico in 2028, creating ideal conditions to align bilateral and interregional priorities while enhancing high-level dialogue.
Regarding Vietnam’s international standing, the ambassador laid stress on the pivotal role of diplomacy in maintaining stability, peacefully resolving disputes, and strengthening multilateral mechanisms. Under President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, Mexico advances a human-centered multilateral agenda focused on peace, gender equality, sustainable development, and social welfare elevation.
Within this framework, Mexico seeks continued cooperation with Vietnam in areas of mutual interest, leveraging platforms like APEC and CPTPP, as well as connectivity between the Pacific Alliance and ASEAN, to enhance deeper links between Latin America and Southeast Asia.
Touching upon Vietnam’s image in Mexico, Ambassador Alejandro Negrin Munoz noted that both nations share historical parallels, socio-economic aspirations, and development goals.
Among the Mexican public, the image of President Ho Chi Minh holds a special place as an enduring symbol of Vietnam and its history. The Mexican diplomat added that political and economic relations between the two countries have advanced robustly in recent years, shown in increased exchanges and cooperation across multiple fields.
Ambassador Alejandro Negrin Munoz identified numerous high-potential sectors for joint work, including inclusive tourism, the green economy, heritage conservation and restoration, digital transformation, clean energy, high-tech agriculture, innovation, and academic exchanges. He emphasized the need to turn these similarities into concrete projects to strengthen ties between the people and productive sectors of both nations.
