Dong Nai urged to maximize opportunities from Long Thanh Airport
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has requested that Dong Nai comprehensively review its planning framework, accelerate infrastructure development and coordinate key economic zones to fully capitalise on opportunities arising from Long Thanh International Airport, set to begin operations by the end of 2026.
The directive was delivered during the PM’s working session with the Standing Board of the Dong Nai Party Committee on June 13, focusing on the province’s socio-economic development strategy and the implementation of major infrastructure projects, particularly Long Thanh International Airport.
Opportunities from Long Thanh Airport operation
Prime Minister Hung stressed that Dong Nai must review its overall planning, functional zoning and supporting infrastructure to ensure connectivity and maximise the benefits generated by the airport once it becomes operational.
“Long Thanh is not merely a transport infrastructure project but a new growth engine for the region,” he said.
According to the Prime Minister, the airport is expected to drive the development of logistics services, airport-oriented urban areas, high-tech industries and a wide range of value-added services across southern Vietnam.
He therefore urged local authorities to prioritise the completion of strategic transport projects linked to the airport, including the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau Expressway, Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4, the western section of the North–South Expressway and the Ho Chi Minh City–Thu Dau Mot–Chon Thanh railway line.
These projects are considered essential to ensuring seamless connectivity and maximising the airport’s operational efficiency once it enters service, he reminded.
The Prime Minister also instructed the province to accelerate land clearance and supporting infrastructure projects, emphasising that there should be “no exceptions” in efforts to keep the airport on schedule for its planned launch in late 2026.
New development mindset
Beyond infrastructure, the Government leader called for a shift from an administrative management approach toward a development-oriented mindset aimed at unlocking new growth opportunities.
He urged Dong Nai to target gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth of more than 10% in 2026, while accelerating public investment disbursement, supporting private-sector development and creating favourable conditions for businesses participating in large-scale projects.
The Prime Minister also encouraged the province to expand urban, industrial and housing developments in key areas such as Nhon Trach, Amata, Long Thanh and Bien Hoa.
Particular emphasis was placed on social housing and rental housing projects to meet growing demand from workers employed in industrial zones and airport-related industries.
Untapped potential remains
The Government leader acknowledged Dong Nai’s recent achievements, including GRDP growth of 9.76% in the first quarter of 2026 and state budget revenue exceeding VND50 trillion during the first five months of the year.
The province has also maintained strong performance in administrative reform indicators, ranking among the country’s leading localities.
However, the Prime Minister noted that significant growth potential remains, particularly in digital economy development, logistics services, high-tech manufacturing and regional value-chain integration.
He reaffirmed that the Government would continue working closely with Dong Nai to address obstacles and consider supportive mechanisms and policies aimed at promoting faster and more sustainable development in the years ahead.
With Long Thanh International Airport approaching completion, Vietnam views the project as a strategic catalyst not only for Dong Nai but also for the entire southern key economic region, strengthening the country’s position as a regional logistics and investment hub.
