Vietnam and Germany expand parliamentary cooperation, deepen strategic partnership
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening parliamentary cooperation and expanding collaboration in emerging sectors, aiming to further deepen their Strategic Partnership and promote sustainable development in both countries.
The commitment was made during a meeting in Hanoi on June 16 between National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Vice President of the German Bundestag Bodo Ramelow, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.
Chairman Man welcomed Ramelow’s visit which he said would help enhance political trust, promote mutual understanding, and create new momentum for the Vietnam–Germany Strategic Partnership to develop in a more substantive, effective and sustainable manner.
Vietnam highly values its Strategic Partnership with Germany and wishes to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, he told his guest.
He praised Germany’s important role within the European Union (EU) and the international community, as well as its support for multilateralism, free trade and international law.
Building on more than five decades of diplomatic relations and 15 years of Strategic Partnership, the top Vietnamese legislator stressed that parliamentary cooperation should continue to serve as an important channel for enhancing political trust and promoting comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
He noted that bilateral cooperation still holds considerable potential in trade, investment, renewable energy, education and training, as well as green transition and sustainable development.
He called on both sides to continue effectively implementing existing agreements, strengthening oversight of commitments and promoting high-quality, sustainable investment projects aligned with the development priorities of each country.
The Vietnamese leader also proposed that the two legislatures explore the possibility of signing a parliamentary cooperation agreement and work toward establishing a Germany–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group to facilitate exchanges on legislation, oversight and national governance.
He highlighted opportunities for cooperation in digital economy, green economy, digital transformation and high technology – the areas that are increasingly important to both countries' development strategies.
On the occasion, the National Assembly Chairman conveyed an invitation to President of the German Bundestag Julia Klöckner to pay an official visit to Vietnam.
For his part, Bundestag Vice President Ramelow expressed admiration for Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and noted that German businesses view Vietnam as an attractive investment destination with significant growth potential.
He affirmed Germany’s desire to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam amid growing global uncertainties, emphasising that mutual understanding, respect and expanded cooperation contribute to peace, stability and sustainable development.
Ramelow said the two countries have substantial room to expand collaboration in vocational training, healthcare, nursing services and human resource development, as well as in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation and advanced technologies.
Both sides agreed to increase delegation exchanges and maintain regular contacts among parliamentary leaders, committees and lawmakers of the two countries.
They also pledged to strengthen cooperation in legislative affairs, parliamentary oversight and digital transformation of parliamentary operations, while enhancing coordination at regional and international parliamentary forums.
The discussions reflected the shared determination of Vietnam and Germany to further deepen their Strategic Partnership and expand practical cooperation in areas that support sustainable growth and innovation in the years ahead.
