NA Chairman highlights parliamentary role in fostering Vietnam–RoK ties
VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on June 18 highlighted the role of parliamentary cooperation in advancing the Vietnam–Republic of Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during a meeting with outgoing RoK Ambassador to Vietnam Choi Young Sam.
Chairman Man congratulated Ambassador Choi on successfully completing his mission in Vietnam and highly appreciated his contributions to strengthening the Vietnam–RoK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, particularly in parliamentary cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
He noted that bilateral relations have continued to develop strongly across multiple areas. The RoK is the largest foreign investor in Vietnam, with cumulative registered investment reaching US$101 billion as of May 2026.
The two countries are also important trading partners, seeing their bilateral trade hit US$89 billion in 2025. Tourism exchanges have been vibrant, with more than five million visits recorded between the two countries.
People-to-people exchanges have continued to expand, as approximately 400,000 Vietnamese citizens are living in the RoK and over 200,000 Korean citizens are residing in Vietnam.
Looking ahead, he stressed the need to further enhance the role of the two National Assemblies in facilitating the implementation of bilateral commitments, agreements and major cooperation projects, while strengthening exchanges among specialised committees, friendship parliamentarians’ groups and female legislators.
He also highlighted the importance of sharing information and legislative experience, which would help reinforce political trust and provide a solid foundation for long-term bilateral cooperation.
The top legislator reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to maintaining a transparent, stable and predictable legal environment for foreign investors, including Korean businesses, enabling them to expand their long-term operations in the country with confidence.
He also reiterated Vietnam’s continued support for and facilitation of the Korean community living and working in Vietnam.
For his part, Ambassador Choi expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the Vietnam–RoK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during his tenure.
He noted that bilateral cooperation has expanded beyond traditional areas such as trade and investment to include emerging fields including science and technology, digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
The diplomat expressed confidence that close coordination between the two legislatures would continue to support the growth of Vietnam–RoK relations and contribute to peace, stability and development in the region.
