Defence Minister Phan Van Giang starts official visit to Japan
VOV.VN - General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, arrived in Tokyo on July 12, beginning an official visit to Japan that runs through July 15.
The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and further deepen the Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Shortly after arriving in Tokyo, General Giang visited the Embassy of Vietnam in Tokyo, where he met with embassy staff as well as representatives of the Vietnamese community in Japan.
Briefing the delegation, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu said relations between Vietnam and Japan have continued to develop positively across multiple sectors.
He noted that political, defence and security cooperation is a highlight of bilateral ties, while economic cooperation continues to serve as their principal pillar. Science and technology, he added, has emerged as a new area of strategic cooperation between the two countries.
Addressing the meeting, General Giang commended the embassy and the Vietnamese community in Japan for their contributions to strengthening bilateral friendship and acknowledged the challenges still facing Vietnamese nationals living and working in the country.
He called on the embassy to continue supporting the Vietnamese community and fulfilling its role as Vietnam's diplomatic representative in Japan.
“I am aware that many of our workers still face difficulties. During this visit, I will discuss these issues with the relevant Japanese authorities so that we can work together to address them,” he said.
According to the official programme, General Phan will visit the Japan Joint Staff College on July 13, pay a courtesy call on Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara Minoru, and hold official engagements at Japan's Ministry of Defence.
