Côte d’Ivoire parliament leader arrives in Hanoi for official Vietnam visit
VOV.VN - President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire Patrick Achi arrived in Hanoi on August 22 for an official visit to Vietnam that is expected to strengthen parliamentary ties and promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
Achi is leading a high-level delegation of the Côte d’Ivoire National Assembly on the visit, which comes shortly after Vietnam and Côte d’Ivoire marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee on Defence, Security and External Affairs Vu Hai Ha received the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport on the evening of August 22.
This is Achi’s first official trip to Vietnam since becoming President of the National Assembly in January 2026 and the second visit by a speaker of the Côte d’Ivoire National Assembly to Vietnam in three years, following Adama Bictogo’s visit in June 2023.
It also marks the first time the Ivorian National Assembly has sent a delegation to Vietnam specifically to study and exchange experience with the Vietnamese National Assembly, according to Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang.
During the visit, Achi is scheduled to hold talks with National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man and meet Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, as well as other senior Vietnamese leaders to discuss measures to expand bilateral cooperation.
The two countries established diplomatic relations on October 6, 1975. Their ties have expanded through multiple channels, with parliamentary relations becoming an increasingly important avenue for cooperation. Two-way trade reached US$1.9 billion in 2025, providing another area with significant room for further development.
The visit is therefore expected to strengthen parliamentary exchanges while helping create new momentum for trade, investment and other areas of bilateral cooperation.
