Vietnamese firm delivers 1,200 tonnes of rice to Cuban partner
VOV.VN - Vietnamese rice producer AgriVMA on June 16 delivered 1,200 tonnes of rice to a Cuban agricultural company under a bilateral cooperation agreement between the agriculture ministries of Vietnam and Cuba, marking the second rice delivery made by the company to Cuba this year.
The handover ceremony took place at a rice mill in Los Palacios district in Cuba's Pinar del Río province, where representatives of AgriVMA handed over the rice to Los Palacios Agricultural Company.
AgriVMA Director Nguyen Thi Thom and Michel Ballate Camejo, General Director of Los Palacios Agricultural Company, signed the handover contract in the presence of Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long and Cuban Deputy Minister of Agriculture Telce González Morera.
Michel Ballate Camejo said that although AgriVMA had only recently launched its rice cultivation project in Los Palacios, the results had exceeded expectations, with average yields currently reaching up to nine tonnes of fresh paddy per hectare.
He expressed hope that the two sides will further expand cooperation in rice production and increase cultivated areas.
In implementing an agreement signed between Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Cuba's Ministry of Agriculture during the September 2024 visit to Cuba by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, AgriVMA has worked with Cuban partners to launch three pilot models.
The pilot programmes include a 1,000-hectare rice cultivation project fully managed by AgriVMA; a model under which the company supplies agricultural inputs and technical support to Cuban farmers; and a scheme providing seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, machinery and technical assistance to local farming households.
Despite the challenges facing Cuba, Vietnamese companies have continued to maintain and expand their operations in the country, providing further evidence of the special friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.
