Vietnam, RoK step up high-tech cooperation as Deputy PM visits SK’s AI data center
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung visited Haein GPU Center operated by SK Group's SK Telecom in Seoul on September 7, exploring high-tech and artificial intelligence cooperation as part of the official visit to the Republic of Korea by National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man and his delegation.
Welcoming the delegation, Chung Suk Geun, CEO of SK Hyper, introduced the operations of the Haein GPU Center, a large-scale AI computing facility integrating over 1,000 NVIDIA Blackwell B200 GPUs in a single cluster. The center supports the development of sovereign AI models promoted by the RoK government, providing necessary computing resources through advanced virtualization and cloud-managed AI deployment solutions.
During the working session, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung acknowledged SK Group's financial and technological capabilities, noting that its investments align with Vietnam's orientation toward selective, high-quality foreign investment. He affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of prioritizing projects in high-tech fields, modern governance, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability that contribute to domestic economic capacity through technology transfer and local supply chain integration.
After touring the facility, the Deputy Prime Minister welcomed SK's proposal to build a large-scale AI data center in Vietnam. He invited the group to pursue a long-term vision by establishing a regional AI and innovation centre that integrates research and development (R&D), technology application, workforce training, and support for domestic startups. Furthermore, he encouraged SK to expand investments in energy, AI, and advanced technologies across key localities such as Bac Ninh, Phu Thao, and Tay Ninh.
SK Group, the second-largest conglomerate in the RoK with a market capitalization of nearly US$ 300 billion, operates around 200 subsidiaries with total revenues exceeding US$ 170 billion in 2025, focusing on AI, semiconductors, and energy. In Vietnam, the group has deployed over US$ 3.5 billion across key projects, including the Quynh Lap gas power initiative with a total investment of about US$2.2 billion in partnership with PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) and Nghe An Sugar Co., Ltd., a semiconductor test socket manufacturing plant in Phu Thao, and an eco-friendly biodegradable material plant in Hai Phong. The group is actively exploring opportunities to expand investments in large-scale energy infrastructure and AI data centers in line with Vietnam's development priorities.
