VOV.VN - Vietnam's shipbuilding industry marked another milestone on July 28 with the launch of a modern offshore wind service vessel designed for international customers, underscoring the country's growing capabilities in high-value ship construction.

Ha Long Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC), successfully launched the CSOV 9020, a specialized vessel used to support the installation, operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms. The vessel is the seventh of 14 CSOVs being built under the project.

At the launch ceremony, Nguyen Van Manh, general director of Ha Long Shipbuilding, described the event as another important achievement for the company's workforce despite challenges facing SBIC during its restructuring process.

He said delivering international-standard vessels on schedule demonstrates the company's technical capabilities and its determination to maintain the competitiveness of Vietnam's shipbuilding industry.

According to Manh, the project reflects the company's ability to master advanced shipbuilding technologies, from steel fabrication and equipment installation to systems integration and quality management, all carried out in accordance with international standards under the supervision of global classification societies.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Tien Dat, deputy general director of SBIC, said said the vessel's launch represents one of the most significant milestones in the shipbuilding process and reflects close cooperation among the shipowner, Dutch shipbuilding group Damen, international classification societies, contractors, suppliers and Vietnamese engineers and workers.

“The CSOV 9020 is a highly specialised vessel designed to support offshore wind farms, one of the world's fastest-growing renewable energy sectors,” he noted. “Successful construction of the vessel demonstrates Vietnam's expanding capacity to design and build technologically advanced ships capable of meeting demanding international requirements.”

The achievement comes as SBIC continues implementing a government-approved restructuring plan while maintaining production of high-value vessels for overseas customers.

Following the launch, Ha Long Shipbuilding will continue outfitting, sea trials and final inspections before delivering the vessel in accordance with contract commitments.
