Sun Group, Changi Airports International expand airport infrastructure partnership
VOV.VN - Vietnamese conglomerate Sun Group and Singapore-headquartered Changi Airports International Pte. Ltd. (CAI) on July 3 signed a comprehensive strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their partnership in the development and operation of airport infrastructure in Vietnam.
The MoU, signed following the two companies' collaboration on the Phu Quoc International Airport project, broadens their relationship from a single flagship development to a long-term strategic partnership aimed at introducing international standards to the planning, development and operation of Sun Group's airport infrastructure projects.
CAI, the airport development and management arm of Changi Airport Group, will work with Sun Group throughout the entire airport lifecycle, including master planning, design optimization, construction consultancy, operational readiness, airport operations, maintenance and the development of specialised aviation services.
The expanded partnership is intended to help Sun Group strengthen its capabilities in airport planning, management and operations in line with international best practices, laying the foundation for the development and operation of world-class airport infrastructure in Vietnam.
The agreement builds on Sun Group's nearly decade-long investment in aviation infrastructure. The group developed Van Don International Airport, Vietnam's first privately developed international airport, which opened in 2018, and has since taken over the operation and expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport in preparation for the 2027 APEC Summit.
Dang Minh Truong, chairman of Sun Group, said: “Our expanded partnership with CAI reflects Sun Group's long-term vision for aviation infrastructure. We are not simply building modern airports, we are building the institutional capability to develop and operate them to international standards, creating new gateways for Vietnam and strengthening the competitiveness of the country's aviation industry.”
Eugene Gan, chief executive officer of Changi Airports International, said: “Sun Group is a partner with genuine strategic ambition, one that shares our belief in thinking big and moving fast. We are proud to stand alongside Sun Group in shaping Vietnam's aviation future and to witness the remarkable growth of Sun PhuQuoc Airways. Together, we aim to strengthen connectivity, elevate the travel experience, and help put Vietnam's destinations firmly on the global tourism map.”
The expanded cooperation is expected to support the development of modern airport infrastructure in Vietnam, while enhancing connectivity, tourism, logistics and broader economic growth in the years ahead.
