Rising export prices push cashew revenue to US$2.4 billion in first half

VOV.VN - Higher average export prices have helped Vietnam generate US$2.4 billion from cashew exports in the first half of 2026, up 2% year-on-year, despite a minor drop in volume and sustained high raw material costs, according to Vietnam Customs.

During the six-month period, Vietnam exported 341,400 tonnes of cashews, down 0.9% in volume. However, average export prices rose 3% to close to US$7,015 per tonne, effectively offsetting the dip.

China and the US remained Vietnam’s two largest cashew markets, accounting for nearly 46% of total export value. Exports to China raked in US$585.14 million (up 11.5% in value despite a 2.2% drop in volume), while shipments to the US climbed to US$514.7 million, up 8% in volume and 8.3% in value.

Vietnam also broadened its market base with robust growth in direct-consumer markets. Exports to Canada and Thailand surged over 50% in both volume and value, while shipments to Germany and Spain registered gains exceeding 20%.

Conversely, exports to the Netherlands, the EU’s key transshipment hub, fell 9.6% in volume and 10.2% in value. Shipments to the UK fell around 5%, while exports to Saudi Arabia declined over 12%, showing the impact of ongoing Middle East tensions on regional trade.

Despite stable overall export performance, Vietnamese processors face squeezed profit margins due to elevated raw cashew prices.

Vietnam Customs expects demand in major markets to stay steady through late 2026, advising domestic businesses to secure raw material supplies, improve product quality, and expand deep processing to enhance value addition and market competitiveness.
