Mekong Romance cruise ship launched ahead of 2027 operations
VOV.VN - The Mekong Romance, a new luxury cruise ship built entirely in Vietnam for tourism on the Mekong River, was launched in Ho Chi Minh City on September 29 and is scheduled to begin operations in 2027.
The launch ceremony was held by Saigon Shipbuilding Industry Company Limited (SSIC), a member of Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC), following the ship’s design, construction and completion in Vietnam.
Mekong Romance was technically and technologically designed by Vietnam Shipbuilding Engineering Corporation (VISEC), with quality consultancy and supervision provided by Vietnam Maritime Engineering and Technology Company (VIMATEC). SSIC carried out the construction.
The vessel features an Indochinese architectural style inspired by traditional houses in southern Vietnam, combining accommodation with experiences centred on Vietnamese culture. The three-deck vessel is 93.3 metres long and 14.1 metres wide, with a capacity of 70–100 passengers.
It is equipped with a solar power system and next-generation engines meeting IMO Tier II emission standards. According to the shipbuilder, the system can reduce emissions by about 20%.
The cruise ship has 32 cabins, with standard cabins reportedly starting at 3 square metres and featuring private balconies. It also has an infinity pool and a Sky Deck on the upper deck. Three four-star Asian and European restaurants and other recreational facilities are also available for passengers.
The Sky Deck provides an open-air space where passengers can take in views of the river landscape along the lower Mekong during the cruise.
Mekong Romance is primarily designed to serve international tourists, offering journeys focused on the landscapes, culture and daily life along the Mekong River in Vietnam.
Following its launch, the vessel will undergo further system completion and interior installation. It is scheduled for delivery in January 2027, after which it is expected to enter tourism service.
