Hanoi supports Airbus expansion in aviation and high-tech cooperation
VOV.VN - The capital city of Hanoi has pledged to facilitate Airbus’ expanded cooperation and investment in aviation, high technology and human resource development, as it seeks to build a modern aviation industry ecosystem and strengthen its position as a regional innovation hub.
The statement was made by Do Anh Tuan, vice chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee on June 4 at a reception for a working delegation of Airbus Group led by Hoang Tri Mai, general director of Airbus in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
Tuan briefed his guest on the development of the capital city which maintains impressive growth momentum in the first months of 2026. The city's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in the first quarter of 2026 expanded by 7.87% compared to the same period last year. As of March, the foreign direct investment (FDI) capital reached US$645 million.
The completion of important legal frameworks such as the capital city planning with a 100-year vision and the capital city law 2026 create advantages in attracting foreign investment, while contributing to enhancing Hanoi's position, he added.
Regarding potential areas of cooperation, Tuan noted that Hanoi prioritises promoting science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation; attracting high-quality investment, especially in key industries such as aviation and machinery manufacturing.
Amidst the backdrop, the city’s leader expected that Airbus, with its technological strengths and international experience, would support the development of high-quality human resources for the aviation industry, build a technology ecosystem, and promote the expansion of the aviation industry supply chain and related sectors in Hanoi.
For her part, Mai said that Hanoi is not only the administrative and political centre of the country but also increasingly asserts its role as a center for innovation, high technology, and foreign investment attraction.
The development of urban transportation systems and a high-tech ecosystem will contribute to enhancing Hanoi's competitiveness in the future. Airbus hopes to continue exploring potential collaborations and strengthening its presence in the capital in areas where the group excels, Mai shared.
The Airbus representative also proposed that Hanoi consider hosting an annual aviation industry forum to create a platform for business networking, investment promotion, research collaboration and aviation-related training in Vietnam.
Welcoming the proposal, the Hanoi leader affirmed that the city would continue creating favourable conditions for Airbus and its partners to effectively implement research, cooperation and investment activities in the capital in the coming years.
