VOV.VN - Vietnam’s aviation market continued its strong recovery in the first five months of 2026, with over 54 million passengers traveling through airports nationwide, increasing by more than 10% compared to the same period last year.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, international travel was the main growth driver as tourism activity and cross-border business connections continued to recover strongly.

International passenger traffic reached 22.6 million during the January-May period, marking an increase of more than 18% year on year. Domestic passenger traffic totaled 32 million, up more than 5%, indicating that domestic travel demand remained stable despite broader market fluctuations.

Cargo transportation also posted positive growth. In the first five months of 2026, cargo throughput at airports nationwide exceeded 762,000 tonnes, an increase of more than 14% compared with the same period in 2025.

Vietnamese airlines transported over 24 million passengers, up 5% year on year. Of this figure, international passengers accounted for over 8 million and domestic passengers were approximately 16 million, both recording growth rates of over 5%.

Regarding cargo, Vietnamese airlines handled more than 190,000 tonnes of cargo, up 2% year-on-year.

The Vietnamese aviation industry is maintaining its recovery momentum and expanding its market amidst the increase in demand for tourism, trade, and international connectivity. The high growth rate of the international passenger is expected to create more opportunities for airlines, airports, and related service industries in the coming period.
