"Jazz & Phố" exhibition in Hanoi traces century-long musical journey
VOV.VN - An exhibition titled "Jazz & Phố" (Jazz & Streets) opened on September 17 at the Thang Long Music and Dance Theatre, serving as the opening highlight for Hanoi International Jazz Festival 2026 (Jazztival).
The exhibition traces a century-old journey of jazz from New Orleans to its integration into Hanoi's cultural landscape.
Emphasizing the message "Connecting heritage, shaping the future," Le Thi Anh Mai, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, noted that jazz is no longer confined to enclosed concert halls or clubs. By bringing jazz to flower gardens, pedestrian zones, and spaces around Hoan Kiem Lake, the city transforms urban spaces into a large stage where memory dialogues with the present.
Reflecting on his lifelong dedication to jazz, Meritorious Artist Quyen Van Minh, Brand Ambassador for Hanoi Jazztival 2026, expressed strong expectations for the genre's widespread resonance within the capital's cultural landscape through this well-structured international festival.
The exhibition features a multi-sensory space combining historical artifacts, musical instruments, archival documents, and interactive QR codes, allowing the public to directly engage with the improvisational spirit and core identity of jazz.
As the opening event of Hanoi Jazztival 2026, the exhibition precedes a series of main performances slated around Hoan Kiem Lake, including three flagship concert nights at the Hanoi Opera House and the Octagonal House.
"Jazz & Phố" runs with free admission through September 19 at the Thang Long Music and Dance Theatre.
