Dien Bien to host first international folk song and dance festival
VOV.VN - Dozens of local and foreign art troupes will join cultural exchanges, street performances, and artistic showcases during the first international folk song and dance festival to take place at Square 7/5 in Dien Bien Phu Ward, Dien Bien Province from August 28 to September 2.
The festival is expected to become one of Vietnam’s major international cultural festivals to showcase the country's traditional heritage to global audiences, Tran hair Ha, director of the Dien Bien Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and head of the Festival Organising Committee, said at a press conference in Hanoi on July 22.
Through performances, people from different cultures will have the chance to meet and share joyfulness with each other. They will also help to preserve traditional cultural values and create new value in contemporary life, he added.
The festival will feature a variety of unique activities, including domestic and international folk music and dance performances, cultural exchanges, street parades and exhibitions showcasing traditional costumes, handicrafts and regional cuisine.
A trade fair with around 300 exhibition booths is also expected to be held alongside the festival, providing opportunities to showcase local products, tourism and cultural industries. Additional performances and community activities will be organised throughout the festival period to engage both local residents and visitors.
Held for the first time in Dien Bien, the festival is expected to become a cultural hub of national and international significance, helping to spread the fine values of Vietnamese culture while creating opportunities to boost tourism, services, and cultural industries, as well as to foster international integration.
Lo Van Cuong, vice chairman of the Dien Bien provincial People's Committee, affirmed that the event would promote the image of the locality rich in history and a place of peace to domestic and international audiences.
Also, at the press conference, organisers launched the logo and visual identity design contest for the festival. Contestants can send entries from July 22 through August 15.
The festival is held as part of activities to celebrate the 81st anniversary of National Day (September 2). It is set to become a highlight of Dien Bien’s cultural and tourism activities, contributing to enhancing cultural exchange and promoting of the image of Vietnam and its people to international friends.
