Ca Mau to launch first hot air balloon festival celebrating southern heritage
VOV.VN - The southern province of Ca Mau will host its first heritage culture day and hot air balloon festival from August 28 to September 1 to boost tourism and promote its unique identity.
The event, themed “Celebrating Cultural Heritage at Vietnam's Southernmost Frontier,” will take place at Hung Vuong Square in Bac Lieu ward and several nearby venues, said Ly Vy Trieu Duong, deputy director of the Ca Mau Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, at a press conference on July 9.
The opening ceremony, to be held at 8 p.m. on August 28 at Hung Vuong Square, will feature 34 hot air balloons, including balloons for sightseeing tours, and ground-display balloons.
A range of activities will be organised such as a showcase of representative intangible cultural heritage from Vietnam's various regions; a space dedicated to promoting the intangible cultural heritage of traditional salt-making; and a trade, culinary, and One Commune One Product (OCOP) fair.
Besides a press trip to survey tourism destinations in Ca Mau and experience local tourism products, and an investment promotion conference will take place.
A conference will be held to review the implementation of the 2020–2025 tourism cooperation programme between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta provinces and cities and to sign a joint plan for tourism development cooperation for the 2026–2030 period.
Through a series of activities, Ca Mau province aims to continue promoting its image as a destination in the southernmost of the fatherland while showcasing unique cultural values, signature tourism products, investment potential, and a favourable business environment.
At the same time, the festival seeks to create new tourism products, stimulate tourism demand, and foster socio-economic development. Authorities plan to develop the festival into an annual event, creating a stronger tourism brand for Ca Mau and the wider Mekong Delta.
