Several major newspapers in France carried new stories and photos of the opening day of Vietnam’s 10th Party Congress on April 19.

(The World) praised Vietnam’s dynamic development in recent times after more than three decades of national unification, saying that in 2005, the country reached an impressive economic growth rate of over 8 percent.


Meanwhile, economic experts from the international management and finance company Merrill Lynch, were quoted as saying that Vietnam has stronger growth power than Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia.


In recent years, Vietnam has actively implemented reform programmes with orientations for sustainable socio-economic development. Notably, the country is trying its best to prepare for its World Trade Organisation (WTO) admission process.

daily Wanadoo said the 10th National Party Congress discussed many important contents, particularly anti-corruption matters. The 10th Congress will help Vietnam further develop in the 21st century thanks to the country’s renovation policies and developing market economy.  


*** On April 18, the Chinese News Agency Xinhua covered the full text of the congratulatory message from the leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to the 10th National Party Congress.


The message says, "The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has during the past 76 years applied Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought as the theoretical foundation and guidelines for its action plans. It has led the Vietnamese people to successfully implement national liberation and reunification and continuously gain important advances in the process of seeking a suitable development policy. Twenty years of the Doi Moi (renewal) process has opened a new era in the country's socialist construction with a stable socio-political situation, high economic growth, improved living standards and a better position in the international community. As comrades, we rejoice from the bottom of our hearts at the outstanding achievements that you have attained.


“We believe that the congress will inherit and launch new things. This will be a solidarity and successful congress. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnam will develop into a modern Socialist industrialised country with
a rich people, a prosperous country, and an equitable, democratic, and civilised society.”


In addition, the Chinese mass media such as Xinhua Chinese, Central Radio and Television, China Radio International, and Hanqiu newspaper also reported on the 10th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.


Hanqiu
wrote that Hanoi is bedecked in fluttering red banners with yellow hammer and sickle insignias to welcome the congress. The article also introduced the main contents being discussed at the congress and their relevance for Vietnam’s future development. It wrote that thanks to the renewal process over the past 20 years, the country’s political environment has remained stable, its position in the international arena has been heightened and people’s living standards has been much improved. The paper noted that Vietnam’s annual economic growth rate reached 7.5 percent in the 2001-2005 period and GDP per capita stood at US$650 in 2005.
